Biography of Duytter

Daniel Uytterhaeghe alias Duytter, is a painter from Lille. From 1979 to 1985, he studied Applied Arts at the ESAAT Roubaix from which he graduated as a model designer and a textile designer. For almost 22 years, he has worked in a textile design company until its closing in 2007. In parallel, he exhibited his work from 1996. In 2007, he decided to devote himself entirely to painting.

Fascinated by urban universes, he draws his inspiration from his travels: Moscow, London, Paris, Rome, New York, Montreal, etc.

Techniques

His paintings borrow their aesthetic to photography. Duytter retranscribes images and urban scenes memorized with the help of sketches or photos.

His realistic paintings, often in end-of-day colours, evolve towards less figuration in his black and white washes. He paints watery cities, inhabitants captured in a peaceful or melancholic languor. He multiplies the effects of light and shadow with accuracy. His painting also offers the spontaneity of the stolen moment, giving it, in the manner of Edward Hopper, a value of eternity.
